What you should know about to be a poet

"all you can about animals as persons.
the names of trees and flowers and weeds.
names of stars, and the movements of the planets
and the moon.

your own six senses, with a watchful and elegant mind."

-Gary Snyder- an excerpt from the poem

  1. I took a class last semester, that I hated so much (it made me angry angry angry!), and we opened it with Gary Snyder. Thankfully, the class did not ruin him, but it's funny. He has always reminded me very much of my dad!

It wasn't until I was flipping through my Gary Snyder Reader that I suddenly recognized a story my dad used to tell when I was little! I showed dad, and he said he had never been able to remember where he got it!

  2. You have such a wonderful knack for combining a lovely turn of phrase with the perfect image :)

  3. Your dad sounds awesome Kater!

and Missa, that's a wonderful thing to say to a screenwriter;)

  4. what a great photograph and quote!
